BIRAL

BIRAL is a collaboration between the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN), the Basic Income Research Group of the Gyeonggi Research Institute (GRI), the Jain Family Institute (JFI), and FRIBIS. BIRAL brings together UBI advocates from science and politics to promote the international exchange of research findings collected through UBI pilot projects around the world.

One of BIRAL’s main goals is to collect and analyze the experiences gained from basic income experiments around the world, and to discuss them in a series of seminars. To this end, BIRAL brings together international researchers and research teams, universities, and local policy makers who are conducting research on basic income or who are already experimenting with basic income variants in the form of pilot projects. Based on the results of these basic income experiments and studies, BIRAL aims to provide useful tools for policy makers who are interested in introducing basic income in their region.

Another important goal of BIRAL is to offer a platform for the exchange of ideas between municipal decision makers. This will make it easier for mayors and local politicians to share their knowledge and support each other. Local decision-makers will also be informed about the possibilities available to them when launching a basic income program in national or local currency. Last but not least, BIRAL also sees itself as a laboratory of ideas that aims to develop new concepts for introducing a basic income at the local, regional and federal levels.

To put these plans into action, FRIBIS partnered with the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN), the Jain Family Institute (JFI), and the Basic Income Research Group of the Gyeonggi Research Institute (GRI) to organize the first online seminar on May 28, 2021. A second seminar was held on June 14, 2021.
